Compensatory measures for the copper redhorse on the Verchères islands
Montréal – 10, 09, 2025 – The MPA, DFO, and ECCC, the three authorities, have determined that the Compensatory Measures for the Copper Redhorse in the Verchères Islands project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
- impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
- Indigenous knowledge;
- community knowledge;
- comments received from the public; and
- technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:
- Use of clean materials to limit suspended solids; Authorized work period based on fish and migratory bird nesting periods, including the bank swallow; or at a sufficient distance to avoid causing a nuisance. Etc. All mitigation measures are described in detail in the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) report.
MPA, DFO and ECCC are satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, the MPA may carry out the project.
