Sawmill demolition – Acorn mill – Public comments invited

September 16, 2025 As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Sawmill demolition – Acorn mill, located at 9355 Alaska Way, Delta BC, are likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. 

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

The proposed project includes complete demolition of all site buildings, structures and stationary equipment from the former Acorn Sawmill. This includes sawmill and planer buildings and equipment, debarking building and equipment, all portable buildings, wood drying lumber kilns and dry shed, chip scow loading bins and conveyor, main office building. Foundations will be removed to be level with surrounding grade where possible. All below grade depressions will be filled with gravel and the site will be cleaned of debris, garbage, and concrete blocks. Utilities, foundations, and in-water structures are to remain.
