The Proposed Project
The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to replace Building D5 (Boat Shed) located at the north end of His Majesty's Canadian (HMC) Dockyard. Building D5 is no longer operational, identified as impacted with mould and other hazardous materials, and is slated for deconstruction. The site and a portion of Killick Road will be raised to mitigate sea level rise and electrical service in the area will be upgraded as part of the project. A new Training Crane and Boat Shed will be constructed to accommodate Naval Fleet School Atlantic small boats training. The Boat Shed will be a two-storey building, occupying a footprint of approximately 400 square metres. The Boat Shed will house boat maintenance and wash bay, tool storage, change rooms/showers/locker room, laundry facilities, dry suit storage, as well as classroom and office space. Covered outdoor storage will be provided for boats and trailers not in use inside the building. A mono-rail crane will allow boats to be transported from the storage area to inside the building to the water for launching. The project is expected to begin Fiscal Year 2025-2026.
