July 21, 2025 - Halifax International Airport Authority (HIAA) intends to make a determination regarding whether carrying out the project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.  To help inform this determination, the HIAA is inviting public comments until August 21, 2025.

The Halifax International Airport Authority intends to expand the asphalt pavement at the northern extent of its apron to increase gate capacity and operational flexibility for the Air Terminal Building. The paved area of the expansion is approximately 2,700 m2, and will absorb a groundside (i.e., currently beyond the airfield's secure perimeter) area that currently includes a modular building located at 295 Goudey Drive and a buried aircraft lavatory waste holding tank.  To support the apron expansion, the modular building will be removed, and the holding tank will be relocated to remain groundside. Further infrastructure within the expansion will include new buried stormwater drainage and electrical utilities, new airfield lighting, a jet blast deflector and a retaining wall.

Approximate timeline: Early site works will start in October 2025 until December 2025, work will then resume in April 2026 until June 2026 at which time completion of the project is anticipated.
