The Royal Canadian Mounted Police must determine whether the proposed Shamattawa RCMP Above Ground Storage Tank Replacement, located in Shamattawa, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the Royal Canadian Mounted Police is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

Summary: Replacement of existing above ground storage tanks with new similar sized tanks. The tanks are required to ensure the heating and vehicle fuel needs are met and the Shamattawa detachment remains fully operational. The current system consists of: 1 -50,000 L diesel fuel tank installed in 1995, 10 – 1,136 L day tanks installed in 2005 and 1- 24,100 L automotive gasoline tank installed in 1996. Potential to disturb environmentally impacted soil during construction activities. Mitigation measures will be implemented if impacted soil is encountered.
