The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing a project. The German Army Engineer Construction Team is planning to conduct training activities including deployment of approximately 63 persons at 5 Wing Goose Bay from 12 September 2025 to 13 October 2025.

Planned training activities at the Wilburn Bay German Camp include construction of a new bunkhouse (approximately 20' x 40') between bunkhouses 4 and 5, installing a new water well (non-potable water), general maintenance of outhouses, buildings, waterpipes, doors, lights, etc, cutting firewood and installing a fire shield between generator and tank.

Planned training activities at the Austere Operations Training Complex (AOTC) include repairing existing targets and villages, new construction of a dangerous goods storage shed (approximately 8' x 22') near the 100 m firing range, new construction of a bunkhouse (approximately 20' x 40'), new construction of a mock village and simulated radar tower target north of the AOTC in the Practice Target Area (PTA) and collecting Unexploded Explosive Ordnance (UXO) and brass from previous winter training exercises for return to 5 Wing. The training exercise may also include the use of local trail systems by ATV/UTV.
