The Proposed Project

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours (DFO-SCH) is planning to undertake a harbour rehabilitation project at the North Bay, Ontario Small Craft Harbour site. North Bay Small Craft Harbour, is located on Lake Nipissing in North Bay, ON. The Site is currently used primarily as a recreational facility, offering public lake access and temporary transient berthage.

This rehabilitation project will focus on the Service Dock and Launch Ramp and includes:

  • Encapsulating the existing steel sheet pile walls on the Service Dock and Launch Ramp Walls with new pre-cast concrete panels
  • New walls to be approximately 500-700mm beyond existing walls
  • Supply and installation of rock protection (rip rap) along the toe of the new wall (full length)
  • Requires approximately 1.2 m wide x 0.6 m deep excavation
  • To accommodate the new wall, the existing launch ramp consisting of pre-cast concrete panels, will be removed and reinstalled about 500-700mm north of its existing location
  • Installing a pile cap on the new walls
  • Installing a new concrete deck and/or reinstating existing concrete pavers (where applicable)
  • Reinstating asphalt in the disturbed area

The project will include installation and maintenance of a turbidity curtain around the work. Additionally, there are two gas pumps on the service dock that will remain; fuel lines will be located and protected during construction.
