Rossville Small Craft Harbour Improvements

June 16, 2025 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, must determine whether the proposed Rossville Small Craft Harbour Improvements project located on the Jack River in Manitoba is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours is planning a project to undertake harbour improvements at Rossville (Mission Island) Small Craft Harbour located on the Jack River in Manitoba. The project will reconstruct the existing launch ramp and complete additional harbour improvements at the Rossville (Mission Island) Small Craft Harbour site.

This includes:

  • Demolition and removal of:
    • Approximately forty (40) existing pre-cast concrete launch ramp pads
    • Approximately five (5) damaged timber fenders on existing wharf
    • Two (2) existing gangway brackets
    • Two (2) existing pipe sliders; and
    • Damaged deck boards on floating docks.
  • Supply and installation of new pre-cast concrete launch ramp consisting of the following:
    • Excavation to suit new ramp installation.
    • Supply and installation of geotextile material.
    • Supply and installation of new granular base and sub-base.
    • Supply and installation of fifty (50) new pre-cast concrete launch ramp pads.
    • Supply and installation of rip-rap material.
  • Repairs to existing wharf which include but are not limited to the following:
    • Supply and installation of new timber fenders, gangway riser brackets, and pipe sliders.
    • Salvage and reinstallation of existing steel bollards.
  • Repairs to existing floating docks
    • Supply and install of new deck boards.
    • Supply and installation of one (1) float cover plate
    • Supply and installation of one (1) gangway transition plate.

The portion of work that will be in-water is the demolition and removal of the existing launch ramp, and supply and installation of new launch ramp, granular base and sub-base, and rip-rap.
