Moose Lake Harbour Improvements – Public Comments Invited

May 15, 2025 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, must determine whether the proposed Moose Lake Harbour Improvements project located in Moose Lake, MB is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

Moose Lake Small Craft Harbour, is located on the western shore of South Moose Lake in Manitoba near the Saskatchewan River Delta. The Site is an irregularly shaped water lot with an estimated total area of approximately 0.85 ha. The Site is currently used as a Small Craft Harbour, accessible by the general public. The site is bounded by the waters of South Moose Lake to the north, south and east and an access road leading to the Moose Lake community to the west. 

DFO-SCH is planning to undertake harbour improvements at the Moose Lake, Manitoba Small Craft Harbour site. DFO-SCH is responsible for maintaining safe and accessible harbours at Moose Lake, MB. The Fishers of Moose Lake require an additional wharf to safely and efficiently offload their catch. In addition, the existing floating docks have reached the end of their economic life and require replacement. 

The following work will be undertaken by a contractor: 

  • Demolition, removal and disposal of two (2) 1.8m x 6.1m principal floating docks 
  • Installation of two (2) existing 1.8m x 6.7m principal floating docks 
  • Installation of a new treated timber crib and span wharf complete with ballast rock, stone mattress, curbing, and ladder.
  • Installation of one (1) new 3.048m x 7.313m treated timber offloading float wharf
