Longueuil – April 1, 2025 – The Jacques Cartier and Champlain Bridges Incorporated (JCCBI) has determined that the Melocheville Tunnel: Replacement of Bridge P-113, tunnel paving, securing of fencing on rock walls, and related electrical work (TMP0014) project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental impacts.

This determination is based on the following factors:

  • Implementation of effective mitigation measures when carrying out work.
  • Knowledge of the area.
  • Coordination of activities between partners.
  • Monitoring of compensation measures undertaken.

Effective mitigation measures are planned for each potential environmental impact. The main mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are the following:

  • Developing and implementing an emergency response plan throughout the project.
  • Maintaining riparian vegetation by limiting the work area. Restoring shorelines to their original condition.
  • Minimizing interventions in fish habitat by carrying out works, undertakings, and activities on land.
  • Ensuring adequate sediment control and preventing the entry of deleterious substances in water.
  • Carrying out contaminated soil management, wastewater management, nuisance control, and hazardous and residual materials control in accordance with JCCBI standard specifications.
  • Complying with conditions issued by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO) under the fish and fish habitat protection provisions of the Fisheries Act.

JCCBI undertakes to carry out this project by adopting all reasonable measures to respect the environment. To this end, a firm specializing in worksite supervision has been retained to continuously ensure compliance with the designated standards and mitigation plan.
