1 Sandridge Road, Ottawa, Ontario – March, 2025 – The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) has determined that the proposed project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • impacts on the rights of Indigenous peoples;
  • Indigenous knowledge provided with respect to the project;
  • community knowledge provided with respect to the project;
  • comments received from the public; and
  • the mitigation measures that are technically and economically feasible that would mitigate significant adverse environmental effects of the project that the RCMP is satisfied will be implemented.

Mitigation measures will be implemented to address potential adverse effects on the following components of the environment:

  • surface water;
  • soil quality;
  • vegetation;
  • human health;
  • archaeological resources; and
  • historical resources

Some of the mitigation measures considered for this determination are:

  • Implement an erosion and sediment control plan.
  • Implement spill response plan.
  • Test soil prior to off-site disposal at a licensed disposal facility.
  • Train workers to conduct wildlife sweeps before starting work, and what to do if animals are observed.
  • If tree removal is required, prepare a tree conservation report. Conduct tree and vegetation removal outside of bird nesting season. Replace trees that must be removed.
  • Conduct daily visual inspections of the work site to identify and mitigate environmental, health and safety risks.
  • Upon completion of construction, all disturbed areas will be reinstated to existing condition or better.

The above list contains standard mitigation measures for valued components identified in the project area, but is not an exhaustive list of all mitigation measures that may be implemented.

The RCMP is satisfied that this project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects; therefore, the RCMP may carry out the project in whole or in part.
