The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to install a containerized Live Fire Trainer (LFT) at the Damage Control Division (DCD) School to provide a realistic fire environment, specifically referring to Class A fires that burn solids. Wood or wood products are to be used as fuel for the fire. The proposed site for the LFT is south of the existing helicopter (Class B) fire trainer. The LFT is expected to consist of four weatherproof shipping containers with a protective interior lining for fire training activities. An additional three shipping containers will host laundry facilities and storage for fire training gear and equipment, as well as wood storage. Foundations are expected to be reinforced concrete pads. Construction is expected to take place in 2025/2026.
