February 11, 2025 – The National Research Council (NRC) must determine whether the proposed sidewalk addition, located at the NRC Uplands Campus, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The National Research Council of Canada (NRC) is proposing the construction of a sidewalk addition to provide accessible pedestrian access from the intersection of Levy Private and Sonic private, and the intersection of Research private and Sonic Private to various research facilities within NRC's Uplands Campus (Buildings U61, U62, U72, U66, and U70). The project will improve the accessibility and the usability of the Upland's campus. With the implementation of the extension of the light-rail train (line 4) to the nearby MacDonald-Cartier Airport, it is anticipated that there will be more pedestrian traffic to buildings U61, U62, and U72.

The proposed project would take place on National Research Council Canada (NRC) lease lands to the Ottawa MacDonald-Cartier airport authority. Since the project is located within the National Capital Region, the National Capital Commission (NCC) has a role under the National Capital Act, as part of the Federal Land Use, Design and Transaction Approval (FLUDTA) process.

The project consists of the construction of a sidewalk and a landscaping plan. No vegetation removal is anticipated for this project. The project work would take approximately five months from start to completion (May 2025 to November 2025).

To help inform this determination, the NRC is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public [and may be posted online]. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.
