Municipality of Bluewater Storage Tank System Replacement – Public Comments Invited

February 10, 2025 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada, Small Craft Harbours Branch, must determine whether the proposed Municipality of Bluewater Storage Tank System Replacement located in Bayfield, ON is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Municipality of Bluewater intends to replace the fuel tanks at Bayfield Small Craft Harbour. Bayfield Small Craft Harbour is located on the east shore of Lake Huron and at the mouth of the Bayfield River in Bayfield, ON approximately 30 km north of Grand Bend, Ontario. 

The majority of this work will take place off federal lands where the existing underground storage tanks are currently located and the underground storage tanks will be replaced with a 20,000L aboveground, double-walled, double-compartment tank. 

Work taking place on federal lands includes:

- Existing piping to be traced, removed and area restored and new piping installed 

- Replacement of hose reels 

- Existing dispensers and concrete pad removed and disposed of including any underground infrastructure and new concrete pad and dispensers installed
