The Proposed Project

Shoal Lake Cree Nation is proposing improvements to teacherages in an existing residential area of the community. The improvements are intended to protect the residents' health and safety and provide suitable compliant basic living accommodations. According to a recent review, eight teacherage units are in need of renovation or replacement. The majority of the units that were identified for improvement were originally constructed as residential style buildings, and two units are understood to be converted portable classroom structures.

Based on the results of the review, four of the eight units will be replaced with new units due to their degraded state. The remaining four units will require interior renovations, including upgraded plumbing, HVAC, and electrical systems, doors, windows, walls, ceilings, and finishes. Exterior renovations will also be completed, including replacement of doors, windows, roof, gutters and downspouts. No new utility lines will be necessary.
