Project Title
Connected Coast Ivory Island Redesign
Notice of Determination
December 20, 2024 - Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Canadian Coast Guard has decided that the proposed Connected Coast redesign at Ivory Island landing site in British Columbia, is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
In making this determination, the Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Canadian Coast Guard considered the following factors and mitigation measures:
Factors
•    Impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples of Canada
•    Indigenous knowledge
•    Community Knowledge
•    Comments received from the public
Mitigation Measures
•    Land based equipment operations below the High Water Mark (HWM) will be limited as much as possible to reduce the potential introduction of deleterious substances into the marine environment.
•    When vegetation clearing is required, construction is targeted outside the nesting period for migratory birds (mid-March to late August) to limit the risk of harm to birds and their nests.
•    The Environmental Monitor (EM) will conduct a nest sweep for species that have year round protected nests  (e.g. Bald Eagle and Great Blue Heron) and migratory bird species.
•    During all in-water works, a 100m exclusion zone will be established around the active work area for whales, dolphins and porpoises, except killer whales where a 200m exclusion zone will be established during in-water works.
Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Canadian Coast Guard is satisfied that there is low potential for the project to cause adverse environmental effects on areas of federal jurisdiction. Environmental effects that are within provincial jurisdiction would be addressed through provincial regulations.
Therefore, Fisheries and Oceans Canada and Canadian Coast Guard may exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
