Notice of Determination
Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area, Prince Edward County, Ontario – Decemeber 13, 2024 – The authority has determined that the proposed expansion and renovation of a cottage in the Prince Edward Point National Wildlife Area is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
This determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:
-
impacts on rights of Indigenous peoples;
-
comments received from the public; and
-
technically and economically feasible mitigation measures.
Mitigation measures taken into account for this determination are:
-
Routes to structures and the work site will be delineated to limit impact on soil, vegetation and wildlife habitat; sensitive habitat will be marked and avoided.
-
Sediment and erosion control measures will be used to prevent/limit the introduction of material into the waterways and air.
-
All machinery and equipment will be clean and in good working order to limit the introduction of invasive species, emissions and chemicals into the environment.
-
The timing of the project activity has been planned to occur after the majority of bird breeding and to avoid SAR herptiles.
-
All wildlife encountered will be encouraged to leave the work site, work will only continue once the wildlife has left.
The authority is satisfied that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
Therefore, the authority may carry out the project, exercise any power, perform any duty or function, or provide financial assistance to enable the project to be carried out in whole or in part.
