The Proposed Project
The proposed hybrid infrastructure project will involve the installation of both man-made infrastructure and natural vegetation and plants to secure and stabilize the quickly recessing shoreline along approximately 200m of the Winnipeg River on Fort Alexander No. 3, reserve lands of the Sagkeeng First Nation, to prevent further erosion and land loss.
Project works include:
- The installation of rock armour and rock fill along the lowest, most vulnerable part of the shoreline.
- The planting of trees along the shoreline above the rock armour to further stabilize the bank and protect against erosion.
The project is in close proximity to the Winnipeg River, therefore there is potential for impacts to water, but there are no works in water planned. Construction is planned to take place during the Winter of 2025.
