Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Construction of four (4) six-plex apartment buildings, for a total of 24 new residential housing units (RHUs), at 12 Wing Shearwater, Canadian Forces Base Halifax

October 30, 2024 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) is proposing to construct 4 six-plex Residential Housing Units (RHUs) at 12 Wing Shearwater. The RHUs will be built on vacant land in an existing RHUs community. The approximate footprint of each new building will be 194.7 m². The site is proposed to have 15 parking spaces and six sheds per building. The new RHUs will be connected to existing municipal services.
