Black River First Nation Prevention Centre – Public Comments Invited

October 25, 2024 Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Prevention Centre, located in Black River First Nation is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

The objective of this project is to complete the planning, design, and construction of the First Nations Child and Family Services (FNCFS) Prevention Centre for Black River First Nation. The 2,684 square metre facility will provide both indoor and outdoor cultural and age-appropriate space for prevention programming to be used by the community's youth and families. The Project will consist of teaching and work areas, offices, family meeting areas, cultural spaces, fitness and gym spaces, washrooms, support spaces (e.g., IT, mechanical, electrical), detached garage, and storage. Site amenities will include parking and paved walkways, playground, outdoor teaching amphitheatre, natural drainage swales, cultural gathering spaces, and preserved native forest.
