September 19, 2024 – Global Affairs Canada must determine whether the proposed My Education, My Future (MEMF) project, located in Burundi and Tanzania, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
To help inform this determination, Global Affairs Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public. The Proposed Project
Project Title: My Education, My Future (MEMF)
Summary of the Project The "My Education, My Future" (MEMF) project, funded by Global Affairs Canada, is executed by a consortium led by Right to Play International and the Norwegian Refugee Council. This initiative focuses on enhancing access to quality education for girls impacted by the Burundian refugee crisis in Burundi and Tanzania. A key component of the project involves the construction and rehabilitation of water, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) facilities across six ECOFO schools in the Gisuru Commune of Burundi. Additionally, the project includes non-structural WASH rehabilitation activities in Tanzania
The project's key physical activities include the construction of new toilet blocks with changing rooms, the rehabilitation of existing toilet blocks, and the installation of rainwater harvesting systems and storage tanks.
