Project Description:
IAMGOLD Corporation is proposing the construction, operation, decommissioning and abandonment of the Côté Gold Mine Project, which includes an open-pit gold mine, an on-site metal mill and structures for diverting water, located 20 kilometres southwest of the community of Gogama in northeastern Ontario. The Designated Project would have an ore input and ore production capacity of 36 000 tonnes per day, with a life of approximately 17 years.

Overview:
The Enforcement Operations Team of the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) conducted a site inspection of the Côté Gold Mine project on October 3, 2023. The project is in the construction phase. The inspection was carried out by Senior Enforcement Officer Julie Buron and Senior Enforcement Officer Steven Fraser accompanied by analyst David Van Olst. The inspection was part of the planned inspections for the project.
Site Inspection Details:
Over the 1-day inspection, multiple areas of the project were inspected. Those areas included the Plant site, the Open Pit, the Tailings Management Facilities, the Overburden Stockpile and the Water Course Diversion.
Compliance with the following Decision Statement conditions were verified, where applicable.
- Condition 3 – Fish and fish habitat
- Condition 4 – Migratory Birds
- Condition 6 – Health of Indigenous Peoples Condition 8 – Accidents and Malfunctions
