Joyceville Institution - Fire Protection System Upgrade – Public Comments Invited

September 09, 2024 – The Correctional Service Canada must determine whether the proposed Joyceville Institution - Fire Protection System Upgrade located in Kingston, Ontario is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, the Correctional Service Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Correctional Service Canada (CSC) intends to install a new pumphouse, install new domestic water pipelines, install a water reservoir and upgrade the fire pump and fire water mains for Joyceville Institution. All CSC buildings south of Highway 15 will be connected to potable water. The proposed location of the new pumphouse and reservoirs is adjacent to CORCAN warehousing on the south side of Highway 15.

The project will include decommissioning of drinking water wells and geo-technical sampling to characterize the soils. Telecommunication lines will be pulled through installed underground conduit.
