Project Description:
The Designated Project is the construction, operation and decommissioning of a liquefied natural gas (LNG) export facility with a capacity to liquefy up to and including 400 million standard cubic feet per day, or 11.33 million cubic metres per day, of natural gas to produce LNG for export. The Designated Project is located within the District of Kitimat, British Columbia, approximately 10 kilometres southwest of the Kitimat town centre (Figure 1). The Designated Project consists of a floating LNG facility and marine terminal (and supporting infrastructure), a transmission line and marine shipping. The Designated Project will have a lifespan of up to 40 years.

Overview:
The Enforcement Operations Team of the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada (IAAC) conducted a site inspection of the Cedar LNG Project on July 12, 2023. The project is not in the construction phase yet. The inspection was carried out by Senior Enforcement Officer Julie Buron and Analyst Sarah Devin. The inspection was part of the planned inspections for the project.
Site Inspection Details:
Over the inspection, the main area of the project was inspected, including the future mooring site.
Compliance with the following Decision Statement conditions were verified, where applicable.
- Condition 3 – Fish and Fish Habitat (Including Marine Mammals) Condition 4 – Migratory Birds
- Condition 6 – Physical and cultural Heritage and Structures, Sites, or Things of Historical, Archaeological, Paleontological or Architectural Significance
- Condition 10 – Terrestrial Environment
- Condition 11 – Independent Environmental Monitor
- Condition 12 - Accidents and Malfunctions
