Notice of Intent to Make a Determination
Whitecap Dakota Nation Virtual Health Hub - Public Comments invited
September 3, 2024 - Indigenous Services Canada must determine whether the proposed Whitecap Dakota Nation Virtual Health Hub, to be located on Whitecap Dakota Nation, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. To help inform this determination, Indigenous Services Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

Proposed Project
Saskatchewan Indian Institute of Technologies is proposing the construction of a new health care facility focused on remote health care and training of health care technician. The facility will house equipment, medical staffing and technology to allow for remote diagnosis, remote ultrasonography, and remote x-ray for a number of far north and remote First Nation communities. The hub will support 30 communities with capacity to increase to 60 in the near future and an ultimate capacity for 90 communities in rural and northern Saskatchewan.
Construction will consist of a 1732 sq.m. concrete foundation floor, 1,260 sq.m. first floor, 800 sq.m second floor, and 490 sq.m. third floor. The location will be on Whitecap Dakota Nation on the SE 1/4 of Section 6 - Township 34 - Range 5 - W3M. In addition to at new building, project will involve extending and upgrading an existing access road, extension of 200 mm sewer and 150 mm water mains, surface asphalt parking lots for approximately 70 facility workers, electrical supply and natural gas mains.
