[November 30, 2023] – Indigenous Services Canada (ISC) must determine whether the proposed Katit Creek Lower Bridge Replacement, located in Katit IR1 is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, ISC is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.

The Proposed Project

Works have been proposed to improve navigational safety for Dzawada'enuxw First Nation small boat operators in the Gwa'yi (Kingcome) River and Estuary. Work during will involve dredging of sediment near the confluence of the Kingcome River and Pacific Ocean, and subsequent deposition in the subtidal area fronting the Kingcome delta. Concurrently, work to trim hazardous large woody debris will be conducted in the lower 6 km of the Kingcome River between U'kwa Nalis Village and the confluence with the Pacific Ocean. All works are scheduled to occur in the regional marine and estuarine winter Reduced Risk Work Window between November 15th, 2023, and February 15th, 2024.
