Queensborough Bridge Fender Repair – Public comments invited  

May 16, 2023 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Queensborough Bridge Fender Repair, located within Queensborough Bridge in New Westminster, BC is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.  

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

The BC Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure proposes to complete timber fender repairs at the North and South piers of the Queensborough Bridge in New Westminster. The Project consists of the following activities:  

  • Replacement of treated planks  
  • Replacement of steel plates   
  • Rebuilt of the downstream nose frame at the South Pier, which will include new timber piles  

Works will be completed using a marine spud derrick equipped with a vibratory and/or drop hammer. All removed timbers will be sent to licensed disposal facilities.
