Redevelopment of the Canest Transit inc. terminal situated at the port of Montreal – Public Comments Invited April 14 to May 15 2023

 

April 14, 2023 – Montreal Port Authority and Transport Canada must decide whether the redevelopment of Canest Transit inc. terminal is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

 

To help inform this decision, the MPA is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination.

The Proposed Project

The proposed project is part of the National Trade Corridors Fund (NTCF) financing agreement reached between Montreal Port Authority and Transport Canada. The objective of the project is to improve grain processing capacity, optimize operational space and increase container storage capacity.

The project will take place at the Atelier 42 (3800 Notre-Dame Est Street) and at Camest Transit inc. terminal (3700 Notre-Dame Est Street) and include the following work:

  • Demolition and relocation of electrical substation.
  • Reconstruction and expansion of the Atelier 42 employees' parking lot.
  • Reconstruction and expansion of the terminal storage area.
  • Construction of a stormwater outlet.
  • Reconstruction of a level crossing.
  • Renovation of the Atelier 42 yard.

The work will be carried out from summer 2023 until spring 2026.
