March 6, 2023 – Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Indigenous Services Canada has determined that the proposed Prince Albert Grand Council (PAGC) 10 suite Women's Shelter built within the community of Montreal Lake First Nation is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

The determination was based on a consideration of the following factors:

  • The new homes will have a positive impact on the First Nation community, by providing social support services
  • The septic systems will be inspected by a licensed Environment Canada Public Health Officer before final cover is applied
  • Any clearing of land will be done outside of the nesting period

Implementation of mitigation measures is required for the project to address:

  • Increased amount of solid waste – waste will be segregated and disposed of in an approved waste landfill
  • Fuel related spills – spill kits will be made available and on hand during work

Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation and Indigenous Services Canada is satisfied that that the carrying out of the project is not likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.
