The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defense (DND) is planning to carry out excavation work to proceed with contaminated surface soils off-site disposal on a former training area that is no longer used. The project will include the excavation of soil up to 1 meter deep over an area of approximately 7,500 m2, equivalent of approximately 15,000 tonnes of soil. The area will not be backfilled. The excavated soil will be disposed off-site in a MELCC authorized site and will be subject to traceability with Traces-Québec. The project also involves the dismantling and crushing of a 15 meters by 30 meters concrete slab as well as a 65 meters long and 150 millimeters in diameter concrete pipe. Residual concrete will be transported and disposed off-site in accordance with applicable regulations at an authorized site.
