Grand Bend Harbour Underground Storage Tank Removal – Public Comments Invited

July 5, 2022 – Fisheries and Oceans Canada must determine whether the proposed Grand Bend Harbour Underground Storage Tank Removal project, located in Grand Bend, ON on the eastern shore of Lake Huron, is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this determination, Fisheries and Oceans Canada is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

Fisheries and Oceans Canada's Small Craft Harbours intends to remove to underground storage tanks located at Grand Bend Small Craft Harbour in Grand Bend, ON. Grand Bend is located on the eastern shore of Lake Huron in southwestern Ontario, about an hour's drive north of London, ON. 

Overall the scope of the project includes:

  • Removal and disposal of two (2) underground storage tanks and all related piping, dispensing equipment, transfer equipment, etc. 
  • Removal and disposal of all residual fuel and vapours
  • Sampling of the soil around/underneath the tank 
  • Remediation and disposal of any contaminated material, if found
