The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed to replace the existing high voltage 15kV cables at Canadian Forces Base (CFB) Greenwood in Greenwood, Nova Scotia. Work will generally consist of construction of a new raceway system of electrical utility vaults and duct banks and installation of electrical equipment (switches) and cables to replace portions of the existing 15kV raceway system, switches and cables. The location of the proposed project is alongside existing roadways within Mission Support Area, from the intersection of Swordfish Drive and Administration Drive and along Administration Drive to the rear (south side) of Building 132 (Military Police building), across Ad Astra way to the Cadet Compound north of Ad Astra Way. Work will be completed on DND property, outside the Airfield Operations Zone. The area of work is within the existing security fence line in a developed area of the Base. The closest ecological receptor is Zekes Brook approximately 15 – 20 metres south of the project area behind Building 132 (Military Police building). It is anticipated the project will consist of various activities including excavation and trenching, backfilling and reinstatement of areas including landscaping, concrete walkways and asphalt pavement in parking areas and roadways.
