High Efficiency Natural Gas Boiler for Domestic Hot Water – 12 Wing Shearwater

November 15, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence (DND) has proposed a project which aims to implement a new boiler at 12 Wing Shearwater. Domestic hot water for Hampton Gray Memorial School is supplied by five 60-gallon electric domestic hot water tanks located in the basement, CANEX basement, and room 222. Implementing a new boiler would increase domestic hot water production efficiency. The project involves installation of a high efficiency natural gas boiler that will provide domestic hot water to the building, including the CANEX. Heritage Gas will bring the gas line from their gas distribution lines to the building and install the gas meter.
