Seaspan Vancouver Drydock waterlot expansion – Public comments invited

June 25, 2021 – As part of its Project and Environmental Review process, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority must determine whether the proposed Seaspan Vancouver Drydock waterlot expansion, located at 203 East Esplanade, North Vancouver B.C. is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects. Written comments to be received by July 24, 2021.

To help inform this determination and a decision on whether or not to approve the proposed project, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority is inviting comments from the public respecting that determination. All comments received will be considered public and may be posted online.  For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website. In addition, your contact information may be shared with third parties, e.g., the tenant, other relevant agencies, to help respond to your questions and inform possible mitigations.

The proposed project

Seaspan propose an expansion of their Vancouver Drydock location, including the expansion of their waterlot by 40m to the west. Physical works include the installation of a work pontoon and two additional drydocks to the west of the existing two drydocks, one located on either side of the existing deep-water outfitting pier. Works include:

  • Two new drydocks, one measuring  approximately 100m x 30m, and the other approximately 55m x 22m
  • Six (6) new steel piles
  • A new work float or "pontoon" measuring 98m x 13m
  • 3 ramps to connect the pier to the work pontoon, and the pontoon to the new drydocks
  • The southward relocation of the existing Seaspan Careen by 40m (the existing drydock located on the west side of the deep water outfitting pier)
  • Other miscellaneous works such as the location of utilities and lights on the new or relocated structures
