Public Comment Period on Intent to Make a Determination
Backfit of CANEX gas station (B147)

February 3, 2021 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public. For more information, individuals should consult the Privacy Notice on the Registry website.

The Proposed Project

This project consists of work execution, labor, materials/supplies and tools needed for the backfit of the CANEX gas station (B147). Work includes but is not limited to: installation of a new emergency stop button on front of the building, repositioning and reactivation of the external alarm, adding an audio signal relay at the cash register counter, adding leak detection sensors to the gas pumps, adding a spill kit in the gas filling area, reconnect the Transport Layer Security (TLS) system and adding display on the site. Excavation and off-site disposal of soil will be necessary. The excavation will be located between the gas pumps and the building.
