Demolition of the Rappel Tower at Canadian Forces Base Beaumont Hamel Armoury, Grand Falls – Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador

September 14, 2020 — The Department of National Defence must decide whether the proposed project is likely to cause significant adverse environmental effects.

To help inform this decision, the Department of National Defence is inviting comments from the public on the project and its potential effects on the environment. The Proposed Project

The Department of National Defence is proposing the demolition of the Rappel Tower located at the Canadian Forces Base Beaumont Hamel Armoury. The Beaumont Hamel Armoury is located off Memorial Avenue, on the western side of the Town of Grand Falls-Windsor, Newfoundland and Labrador at a Latitude 48°56'07.6"N and Longitude 55°39'37.7"W. The armoury site is used for army reserve and cadet training. The Rappel Tower is constructed of six pressure treated wooden poles and two wooden platforms; it is approximately thirty years old located in the northeastern portion of the armoury.
