The Proposed Project

BC Hydro proposes to install two 25kV submarine distribution cables across McKay Channel between the City of Nanaimo and Protection Island for power supply to Protection Island replacing existing aging infrastructure.  The two cables will extend from Maffeo Sutton Park in Nanaimo across McKay Channel through Pirates Park on Protection Island and will be located in subsurface conduit at each land side area and then exit conduit in deep water and lay on the seabed.
