Great Plains Generating Station Project — Public Comments Invited

February 15, 2016 — The Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency (the Agency) must decide whether a federal environmental assessment is required for the proposed Great Plains Generating Station Project, located approximately 11 kilometres northwest of Swift Current, Saskatchewan.

To assist in making its decision, the Agency is seeking comments from the public on the summary of the project description and its potential effects on the environment. All comments received will be considered public.

Written comments must be submitted by March 7, 2016 to:

As a next step, the Agency will post a decision on its website stating whether an environmental assessment is required. If one is required, the public will have three more opportunities to comment on the project.

The Proposed Project

ATCO Power Canada Ltd. is proposing to design, build, and operate a 350 megawatt natural gas fired combined cycle gas turbine electricity generation station approximately 11 kilometres northwest of Swift Current, Saskatchewan. In addition to the power plant, the proposed project also includes water source and wastewater disposal pipelines.
